As part of the new Expanded Universe of Star Wars, Marvel has several on-going comics involving the cast the original trilogy. Princess Leia and Darth Vader both have their own titles, while the adventures of the whole gang are chronicled in “Star Wars.”
Written by Jason Aaron with art by John Cassaday, “Star Wars” follow Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, and the droids as they plot to keep the Empire off-balance after the defeat of the first Death Star. Now three issues in, Cassaday has already created a brand-new alien species.
They kind of look like baby Elder Gods.
Cassaday spoke to StarWars.com about his process for creating a new creature.
I wanted to embrace the limitations of technology, make-up, and costuming from that era. No intricate over-the-top CGI or mo-cap. So when I design an alien figure, I keep in mind that it”s an actor wearing a rubber mask, prosthetics, or possibly a puppet. If they couldn”t do it then, I won”t do it now.
Personally, I hope this means we get to see the spaghetti Cthulhu”s live in action at some point. Who doesn”t want to see extras in rubber suits try to wield guns and walk in this get up? Is it too late to get Abrams to shoehorn them into “The Force Awakens”?
