It was an absolute barn-burner between the Grizzles and the Clippers on Wednesday night at Staples Center, and with under 20 seconds remaining, Marc Gasol found himself wide open in the corner for three to give Memphis a two-point lead and eventually a huge 111-107 win. It was just the second loss on the season for the Clippers, who had their seven-game win-streak snapped.
As clutch as Gasol’s shot was, his celebratory dance afterward was somehow even better. The 7-foot center immediately broke out the Conor McGregor walk as he headed back down court for the ensuing timeout.
Gasol has now hit more threes this season than in his entire career combined up to this point. He finished with 26 points, six rebounds, and six assists, and was 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Mike Conley led the way for Memphis with 30 points and was perfect from the field until late in the second half. The Grizzlies’ point guard shot a red-hot 7-of-9 from downtown and dished out eight assists to go along with five rebounds.
They overcame a massive second-half push from the Clippers, led by J.J. Redick, who was 7-of-12 from three-point land and had 29 points on the night. Blake Griffin added 25 points and eight rebounds on a relatively quiet night from Chris Paul, who had just nine points and six assists.
