First, it was hoverboards, then robots, and now Pepsi. We’re fast approaching October 21, 2015, the day Marty McFly travels forward to in the second installment of the Back to the Future trilogy, and brands seem obsessed with making Marty’s future a reality. This morning, Pepsi announced that it will release Pepsi Perfect, the soda Marty orders in 1989’s vision of the future.
“We are excited to be part of this moment and to bring fans something only Pepsi could deliver – and there’s no need to wait – the future is now!” said PepsiCo’s Senior Director of Marketing, Lou Arbetter. The soda will, of course, be officially available for purchase on the 21st, but only in limited quantities: Just 6,500 special-edition 16.9 oz. bottles will be sold in the U.S. for $20.15 (ha, see what they did there?). Inside the bottle, the Pepsi is the same as always — Pepsi Made with Real Sugar. Which is exactly what Marty wanted when he ordered his futuristic Pepsi, anyway.
Can’t wait until the 21st to get your hands on one of those neat-looking bottles? If you happen to be at Comic Con in New York this weekend, you can visit the Pepsi Perfect booth dressed as Marty McFly (which, according to the rules, means wearing a “puffy red vest or Back to the Future Part II jacket”, blue jeans, white high-top sneakers, a watch, and, optionally, a hoverboard). The first 200 Martys will get to take home their own bottles of Pepsi Perfect before everyone else.
