Many people know, or assume, that The Army works on top secret project a lot of the time. What is a surprise though is that one of them has just been revealed to the public and it’s…pizza? Special pizza. That lasts a long time before it has to be eaten. But still, just pizza. Government money at work! According to Tech Insider, this pizza tastes like day-old cafeteria food but magically stays okay enough to eat for multiple years. As one of the Army’s food technologists says:
“It’s a fully assembled and baked piece of pizza in one package…We’ve actually had feedback from the warfighter for years. Pizza just seems appealing to all.”
How did they manage such an incredible feat you ask? Simple, really. All they had to do was chemically re-engineer the sauce and make sure that normal dough and cheese could last for three years sitting in 80 degree heat. Super easy! Regardless, the concept behind the product sounds pretty worthwhile.
Sometime in 2017, soldiers will be opening up MRE #37 and tearing into the pizza pouch, scarfing down a slice of pie that Oleksyk says tastes like “day after pizza” or the kind you’d find in a school cafeteria. While it won’t taste nearly as good as a New York slice, it will likely be decent enough to lift morale in a combat zone.
It’s unlikely the general public will ever get the chance to do a taste test on this Army magic for themselves, but from the sounds of it people can just buy a street slice and wait a few days before reheating it and experiencing the same exact flavor profile. Any soldiers who try it will have to drop us a line and give the final verdict on Magic Army Pizza.
