Childish Gambino – “Bonfire” Video

Childish Gambino sees your endless Halloween mixtapes and raises you a highly creative and creepy “Bonfire” video for All Hallows’ Eve. When I first heard Childish Gambino rap, it was very difficult to separate him from the hilarious Troy from Community. But he’s managed to make myself – and the rest of the world that has a discernible amount of taste – see his two avenues as exclusive entities.

The video itself is rather dark as Gambino finds himself in one of the scariest situations a Black man can find himself in: stuck in the woods with a bunch of white people. Oh yeah, he has a noose on, too. You’ve been warned, so don’t come crying to me when you can’t sleep tonight.

Gambino’s album, Camp, drops on November 15th, which is interesting as it’s right when Take Care comes out. I don’t want to overstate things, but their releases, if met with critical and commercial success, can be one of those landmark Hip-Hop days that turns the genre on its head. Also, the release invites the debate over which is the best actor-turned-MC. I know Drake’s album will get most of the attention, but don’t sleep on Gambino’s offering.
