The Circle, Dave Eggers’ 2013 best-seller about social networking, is set to make a big-screen debut starring Tom Hanks, and now Harry Potter darling Emma Watson has been confirmed for a main character role. Deadline notes that while Watson’s set to shoot the live-action Beauty and the Beast remake before she embarks on the role of Tom Hanks’ employee, it looks like the part she’ll be playing may be preparing her for a future awards season:
Watson, in the role Alicia Vikander was recently attached to, stars opposite Tom Hanks as a young woman who is hired for a big job in an Internet monopoly called the Circle, which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency.
This isn’t the first role Vikander has recently vacated for another big-name star. Due to her shooting schedule for Bourne, Vikander has also disappeared from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed film. Can’t complain, though. Who doesn’t love Emma Watson?
