If there’s one lesson to be learned from the 2016 presidential campaign thus far, it’s that pop music isn’t the way to go when choosing a campaign song. Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump have both suffered embarrassments at the hands of sadsack populist Adele. John Kasich, however, is taking a different route toward residual cool. The Ohio governor is trying to lock down the dad vote by promising to reunite Pink Floyd.
Kasich was talking to CNN and was asked to name his favorite concert ever. He went with seeing The Wall performed live in Pittsburgh before adding an impromptu plank to his platform.
“And if I’m president, I am going to once and for all try to reunite Pink Floyd to come together and play a couple of songs.”
Of course, the largely leftist members of Pink Floyd reuniting for a President Kasich seems about as likely as… well, an actual President Kasich. But if he did somehow convince them to get together, he’d ask that the first song they played be “Money,” due to the United States’ financial troubles.
Kasich isn’t the first to go after the rock vote. Bernie Sanders has cultivated a lot of cool points by singing with members of Vampire Weekend and playing David Bowie songs at campaign events.
