Broad City Went Full-On ‘Sister Act’ Last Night, And It Was Glorious

Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, Broad City. Why? Because in its third season, when it could be faltering, the show just delivered one of the best moments of television in 2016 (I’m calling it now and I don’t care what The Walking Dead has in store). You can hate all you want — and some will — about the episode feeling “underwritten,” but you also can’t deny that a full-on remake of the Sister Act 2 finale, featuring Whoopi Goldberg (out of nowhere) is an unforgettable moment we’ll be talking about for hours, if not days. In fact, right after I watched it (yes! it included the singing), I kept singing it until someone gently invited me to stop (read: the neighbors started pounding on their ceiling with a broom handle to let me know that they’d soon call the police).

If you’re not familiar with the series, here’s what you need to know before you watch: Ilana, who is the world’s worst employee, has just gotten fired for sending out a terrifying video (we can’t discuss the content in polite company) via her company’s social media accounts. While Ilana, like many people whom you hate at work, mistakenly believes that all her co-workers love her, the reality is quite different. And when she hustles on out of her workplace for the last time, the co-worker who hates her most has the above musical daydream, right down to the very ’90s costumes and dance moves. It’s beautiful, right?

For comparison, check out the original video from Sister Act 2 below. It’s just unfortunate that Lauryn Hill didn’t show up to help Whoopi and the rest of Ilana’s former co-workers thank the lord she’s gone forever.
