Now that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has had one of the worst second week drops in box office gross (Affleck might be embracing the darkness right about now), it may raise some questions about whether there will be any standalone Batman movies or another standalone Superman movie (spoilers coming about that in a minute).
IGN nonetheless asked Henry Cavill, Zack Snyder, and producer Charles Roven about whether another Superman movie may fit into a DC cinematic universe already scheduled out through the next four years. Part of their answers were the standard fare: Cavill saying it depends on the success of Batman V Superman, Snyder saying it depends on “if we can get a good script,” and Roven saying, “We’re in the process of looking at that, but we don’t have it on the schedule at the moment because we’re quite busy with the movies that we have scheduled.”
But parts of their answers were telling.
Spoilers ahead.
Okay, here’s the spoiler: The bastards killed Superman. They did the thing. Like a white girl at Starbucks when the chai spice runs out, I can’t even begin to even. (╯° °)╯︵ ┻━┻
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, it should be obvious that another Superman movie means bringing him back from the dead, and of course they would do that. It’s only a question of when and if they do.
Zack Snyder hinted at the death without necessarily spoiling it when he told IGN, “Part of the reason we didn’t announce a standalone Superman movie is to support some of the events of [Batman V Superman].”
Here’s what’s also telling, now that we know Cavill’s not sure he’ll still have a job. In his interview, he says, “It’s something that I would be very keen to do.” Notice how genuine and insistent he sounds when he says very keen. This is a dude who obviously loves being Superman. Maybe, if they want more jokes in their universe finally, they could do a Stepbrothers-esque reboot of Batman V Superman?
