If it wasn’t already, actor Clark Gregg’s status as an American treasure has been etched in stone by his latest bare-knuckled, emotionally-raw television appearance. Both his stellar performance in the current season of Agents of SHIELD and his ongoing presence in the press on all things Marvel have contributed to his bright star, but let’s face it — what everyone loves Agent Phil Coulson for is his musical prowess. Especially he and Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell’s dubsmash war in 2015. The digital smoke dissipated long ago when Atwell and Captain America: Civil War‘s Chris Evans delivered the final blow last summer, but thanks to Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle, Gregg was given the opportunity to respond.
Respond he did, for Gregg chose Britney Spears’ seminal 2003 hit, “Toxic” as his weapon of choice. Britney’s pop catalog is a favorite of Lip Sync Battle guests, as The Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Cuoco proved with her rendition of “I’m a Slave 4 U,” but Gregg’s straight-from-the-music-video airplane attendant number takes the cake. Or the coffee, vodka nips or tomato juice (it tastes amazing in the air, I swear!) that one could request from a grown, hairy-chested man who’s perfectly comfortable displaying his blue-adorned junk atop a serving cart.
Never change, Mr. Gregg. Never change.
Gregg and Atwell’s Lip Sync Battle debuts Thursday, April 21 at 10 p.m. ET on Spike TV.
