I guess Gabrielle Union can’t get on her husband, Dwyane Wade, any more about hitting the glass hard.
Wade, as you might have seen in the Heat’s 90-88 loss to the Hornets Wednesday night, looked like he might have been fouled (or not) on a last-second shot that would have sent him to the free throw line to potentially tie the game.
For reference, here’s the shot again, slowed to a glorious transformers-sounding crawl for maximum visibility:

Either way, the Hornets got a no-call and took a 3-2 lead in the series heading back to Charlotte for Game 6 on Friday. Union, never one to keep her basketball opinions to herself, then went on a glorious Twitter tirade that, at its core, demanded the referees be held accountable for their mistakes. She later roped in argumentative tweeters, which was equally entertaining — for more on that, you can read through Union’s entire timeline — but the crux of her beef can be seen below:

They need to get fined. Period. Crappy officiating deserves a FINE and suspension. Not after the fact "oh well" https://t.co/B6CSxn4ck2

In all fairness I DID let refs know when they gave us calls we didn't deserve… his response "I thought you'd be at the concert" #FineEm

If players/coaches/owners get fined for complaints about poor officiating, makes sense that poor officiating =fines for the refs #logic

And plsssss…hands straight up mean NADA if you get hit with the body down low. Stop it #FineEm

Interest in Union’s opinion aside, the topic of fining or otherwise holding officials accountable for calls is a noteworthy one that deserves consideration. Is the Two-Minute Report evaluation by the league enough?
At the very least, it seems like refs should hold their own press conferences. Fining them for bad calls, on the other hand, seems like a false equivalence made by Union. Players and coaches are fined for criticizing referees/calls, a move that attempts to ensure that no one speaks out of turn or undermines the league as a whole. But no one fines D-Wade if he does his job poorly, which is what Union basically wants for refs.
And, remember, these calls are made in real-time in the blink of an eye. Replay, slow motion and other vantage points aren’t something officials have in their arsenal in that exact moment. They’re human, which means they’re going to get things wrong. That’s life.
