While performing his hit “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” at a show in Edmonton Thursday night, Michael Lee Aday, better known to millions of classic rock fans and Fight Club enthusiasts as Meat Loaf, collapsed on stage. It was a scary moment (that’s happened at least twice before), but the audience — who were asked to leave Northern Jubilee Auditorium — reportedly thought it was part of the show, even though he had been “forgetting words [and] wasn’t on cue,” a concertgoer told the Associated Press.
Fortunately, Meat Loaf is “stable and in good condition,” according to Rolling Stone, and he was hospitalized for “severe dehydration.”
“His vital signs are stable and normal — he’s responsive and recovering well,” the singer’s rep wrote. “He extends his heartfelt thanks for everyone’s support and well wishes, and is expecting a speedy and full recovery. Any concert postponements/rescheduled dates will be announced at a later time.” (Via)
Meat Loaf already canceled two shows earlier in the month, last Saturday in Moose Jaw and Tuesday in Calgary, citing “ill health.” The “Bat Out of Hell” singer’s tour is scheduled to resume in Cold Lake on Saturday, but that’s unlikely to happen. Whenever Meat Loaf does return to the stage, though, I hope he enters on a motorcycle.
