The NFL And Pepsi Claim They Didn’t Really Offer The Super Bowl Halftime Show To Adele, Anyway

Adele might be one of the most beloved singers in the world and one of the hottest acts around, but she’s made it clear that while she’s flattered that Pepsi and the NFL wanted her for the Super Bowl Halftime show, she’s not interested.

In an age where the Super Bowl Halftime show has been one cultural watercooler moment after the other, everything from Janet Jackson’s nipple to Katy Perry’s “left shark” and even Prince’s oversexed performance, Adele didn’t seem to really fit into that whole mold.

So while Adele was quite vocal that she wasn’t about to do the Super Bowl Halftime show, the NFL and Pepsi have struck back with a statement of their own, reports Billboard.

“The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele. We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time.”

So the story according to the NFL and Pepsi was that there was no “formal offer” handed out, anyway. Michael Ausiello of TVLine finds this whole thing to be rather ridiculous.

Were the NFL and Pepsi trying to save face after one of the biggest stars in the music world turned them down and then joked about it in a concert? That’s for all of us to decide. As for who will actually be at the Super Bowl Halftime show, that’s another story altogether.
