Gareth Edwards' “Godzilla” is a big movie, just as one would expect from a massive summer blockbuster monster movie. It features a sizable ensemble cast, each of whom have their own part to play, each with a unique perspective.
One of those characters, portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen, is Elle Brody. Elle is a nurse, and the wife of Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). When I sat down with Olsen to talk about the film and her character, she described Elle as “kind of like a modern-day hero.” The description is a good one – after all, when we, in the real world, have faced disasters, do we not think of those who treat the injured and help where they can as heroes? Check that, forget “think,” they are heroes.
Elle is also the character who sees things from the point of view of the audience. While that may make her the most relatable character to many, she also told us that seeing the movie, it did make her feel rather jealous to have missed out on some of the days on set. Presumably though, next summer, Olsen won't feel that jealousy anymore – she has the prominent role of Scarlet Witch in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which is currently filming.
You can watch Olsen talk about the experience of filming “Age of Ultron” above as a part of the full “Godzilla” interview, or below you can see her answers on the “Avengers” sequel cut together with Taylor-Johnson's. He is in the movie as well, playing Quicksilver (Scarlet Witch's brother).
As for “Godzilla,” the monster smashes into theaters this Friday. The film also stars Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe. Be sure to check out Drew McWeeny's review.
