People On Twitter Are Trying To Avoid Sticky Situations With The ‘Don’t Say It’ Meme

Another meme-ified joke format has been making the rounds on Twitter just in time for Thanksgiving, a time of year when people need to remind themselves not to say that thing they’re thinking out loud, because it could only end in hurt feelings and overturned gravy boats and Uncle Gary blurting out that he doesn’t see why he shouldn’t “get to” say that word if rappers still say it. (Uncle Gary: still the worst.) The joke format was used to remind people about what not to say or do in potentially fraught situations, like conversations that could get awkward:

And people made jokes about embarrassing slip-ups during conversations with service workers.

Some used the meme to remind themselves they need to start acting like an adult at some point. Eventually.

Others had trouble dealing with their emotions.

Some people can’t help but make dad jokes and movie references.

Others vented their annoyance about that guy at the book panel, party, or open mic.

Others just wanted David Attenborough to stop giving us anxiety when we’re trying to watch cute animals in a documentary.

Kyle MacLachlan even got a joke in about his Twin Peaks role.

And some people twisted things around and had fun with the format:
