Watch Miami Marlins’ Dee Gordon Come Up With A Creative New Way To Strikeout

Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon has struck out 44 times this season, so maybe he wanted to shake things up a bit. That’s the only way to explain what happened during Gordon’s at bat in the Marlins-New York Yankees game Wednesday night.

Against Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda and 2-2 count Gordon oddly gripped his bat and watched Pineda throw a strike right down the middle of the plate. This was literally the definition of caught looking. Gordon just stared at the ball as if he was in awe of the magical nature of a ball being thrown over the plate.

And Gordon’s explanation after the game explaining why he did it was odd via Cut 4.

“I wanted to see if he could throw the strike,” Gordon said. “I didn’t think he would, and he did. That’s part of it.”

Yes, Gordon, because why would a pitcher throw a baseball across the plate as the hitter watches hopelessly? Smart reasoning. Maybe Gordon is just pulling one on all of us and really is just setting Pineda up for their next at bat. Maybe then we will figure out what the part of his rationale is.
