In the midseason finale of The Walking Dead, we finally got our first mention of the series’ biggest Big Bad of them all, Negan. We’re not sure when he’ll be officially introduced to the series (although, rumors suggest the season finale), but we do know who will be playing the character: Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
While at the Supernatural PasCon in Pasadena, California, this week, Morgan spoke for the first time about his casting as the cruel villain on The Walking Dead, asking the audience, “Y’all know about Negan?”
“Me, too. It’s why I did it,” he said, to the delight of the crowd.
He wasn’t kidding, either. Though he wasn’t initially told what part he’d be playing when offered the role, Morgan knew exactly who it was, as he told the audience.
“When my agent/manager called they said, ‘You’ve been offered this thing on The Walking Dead…it’s to play this big bad.’ At the time, they didn’t know the character’s name, because I think it was supposed to be a secret. And I’m like, ‘Is it f–king Negan?’ And they’re like, ‘I don’t know, we’re going to have to call you back, hold on a second.’ And I’m like, ‘No, it’s f–king Negan. And I’m f–king doing it.’ “
Watch, beginning around the 1:00 mark:
The man certainly knows how to play a crowd. In fact, his presence may pose a threat to fan favorite Norman Reedus, who is also great with a crowd. Who will be Negan’s first victim? There’s certainly something in the tea leaves that says it could be Daryl Dixon, because we don’t know if The Walking Dead can handle this much crowd-pleasing awesomeness.
