Metallica is one of the most iconic bands of all time. Korn is, well, Korn — but still has its fans and enough of a following that they can go on tour in the year 2017. Not only are they going on tour, but according to Consequence of Sound the band will have a very special addition to the lineup for this stretch of concerts. For the South American stretch of the tour, Korn’s bassist will be none other than the 12-year-old Tye Trujillo, son of legendary Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo. The tween talent will fill in for Korn’s normal band member Reginald “Fieldy” Arizu for the seven-country swing only before Arizu rejoins the band in the United States next month.
Lest you think young Tye won’t be able to hold his on on stage with such an established band, the burgeoning musician already has his own band and can shred just as well as anyone else available to replace Korn’s usual bassist. Plus, the marketing spin probably helps to sell some tickets as well. You can see Korn’s full announcement about the fun development below, as well as a video proving Tye’s legitimate talent.
Some fans aren’t too happy about the last-minute switch based on a mix of Facebook comments, which is understandable for long-time devotees expecting the full band to be performing only for the progeny of another band to be on stage instead. Hopefully Tye’s talent will prove them wrong once he takes the stage.
