It seems as though Civilization creator Sid Meier’s brain is stuck in a nice, deep sci-fi groove, because it’s just been revealed he’s following up last year’s excellent Civilization: Beyond Earth, with Sid Meier’s Starships, a game the basically sounds like the Star Trek sim you’ve always wanted.
Starships will see you controlling a fleet of spacecraft, discovering new planets, completing missions and slowly building an interplanetary federation. Since this is a Firaxis game, you’ll be able to research new technologies which you can upgrade your ships with, and enter into battles, which, of course, take place on a hex-based grid. Interestingly, Firaxis says Starships and Civilization: Beyond Earth with interact in some way, but they aren’t offering any specifics yet.
Here’s a first story trailer for Sid Meier’s Starships, and some art/screenshots…
Sid Meier’s Starships arrives this spring. I feel like I’ve barely cracked Beyond Earth, but there’s no way I’m not getting this. Stop spoiling us, Sid.
