The Winnipeg Jets have traded star forward Evander Kane to the Buffalo Sabres in a blockbuster deal on Wednesday. In addition to Kane, the Jets also part with defenseman Zach Bobosian and goalie prospect Jason Kasdorf. In return they have acquired forward Drew Stafford, defenseman Tyler Myers, a 1st round draft pick, and prospects.

Kane was the 4th overall pick of the Jets in 2009 (then known as the Atlanta Thrashers). He was placed on IR last week and is expected to miss the remainder of the season after having shoulder surgery, ending the year with 22 points in 37 games. The wheels were set in motion for a trade of the young LW earlier this month when he was involved in an odd incident with teammate Dustin Byfuglien. After Kane arrived to practice wearing a track suit, which is against team rules, Byfuglien took the suit and threw it in the shower as a way to “send a message.” Later it was reported that Kane refused to play in the team’s next game against the Vancouver Canucks and he was placed on IR shortly thereafter.
