“The Mailman” Karl Malone made the trip out to Upstate New York on Saturday to see his son K.J. (who plays offensive guard for LSU), take on Syracuse in the Carrier Dome.
Malone was shown several times on ESPN cameras, which revealed that he had his own personal security guard and, more importantly, that the second all-time leading scorer in NBA history, like many 52-year-old men, hasn’t exactly stayed up to date with technology and still uses a flip phone.
Unsurprisingly, the internet had some reactions.

Karl Malone has been trying to send John Stockton the same text for the past ten years.

However, those who have been paying attention, know that Malone, as well as his long-time pick-and-roll partner John Stockton have actually been a part of the flip phone culture for years now.

Despite all of the internet jokes, you can’t fault Malone for using a flip phone. After all, I know several people his age that don’t use a phone at all, and it’s probably better to keep the technologically challenged away from all of the crazy gadgets and gizmos of the modern age and just stick to brass tacks. The Utah Jazz legend was never about being flashy during his playing days, and that has continued into his retirement.
