Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump and the Divinyls’ early ’90s masturbatory anthem “I Touch Myself” are two things that should never, ever come together on the same stage. (Or anywhere else, for that matter.) Even so, it seems Frozen and Book of Mormon star Josh Gad didn’t get the memo when he decided to perform the song on the next episode of Spike TV’s hit show, Lip Sync Battle.
“Wait a minute,” you’re probably thinking. “I don’t get it. What does Gad fake-singing a Divinyls’ song have to do with Trump?”
Per the preview video above and the all-too-telling GIFs below, everything. It has everything to do with everything, and you will never be able to unsee any of this again. Sure, Gad obviously wants to poke fun at the New York real estate mogul with his “I Touch Myself” performance, and the studio audience is in on the joke.
For starters, the look co-host Chrissy Teigen gives the camera at the beginning speaks volumes. I’m not entirely sure what those volumes are saying, but I know they’re there.
Then there’s the penultimate money shot, in which Gad channels Anne Hathaway and launches himself onto the show’s cannonball prop — with one subtle, hairy difference.
“Why penultimate?” Well, I called it the “penultimate money shot” because the ultimate one involves Johnny Galecki.
Gad goes head-to-head with Galecki’s The Big Bang Theory co-star Kaley Cuoco on the next Lip Sync Battle this Thursday, Jan. 28 at 10 p.m. ET on Spike TV.
