Let’s check in with Kirk Cameron, Subway’s second least favorite spokesperson, shall we? The former Growing Pains doofus is currently embarked on a national “Love Worth Fighting For” marriage tour — coming to a town near you, if you’re lucky! — in which he gives, what else, advice to married couples.

And what kind of advice does Kirk Cameron give to married couples? Glad you asked. The Christian Post caught up with Cameron earlier this month during his tour and did a little Q&A, and here’s a little taste of what one can expect.

“A lot of people don’t know that marriage comes with instructions,” Cameron explained. “And, we find them right there in God’s word.” Cameron stated that husbands are “to love their wives and not to tell their wives that they need to submit to them,” but added that wives should not only respect their husbands but also follow their lead.

“Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband’s lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband,” Cameron explained. “When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage.”

The money quote here that’s getting a lot of people worked up is “regardless of how their spouse is treating them,” because no, you shouldn’t follow your husband regardless of how he’s treating you — obviously — because that opens the door to all kinds of emotional and physical abuse. And no one should have to put up with that.

Unsurprisingly, the internet has overwhelmingly agreed:

These are just a few of many, many reasons why couples should seek licensed therapists, not former ’80s sitcom stars, to improve their marriages.
