After a rained-out Governors Ball, a clusterf*ck of an attempted make-up show and an offer from Mayor Bill De Blasio, Kanye West will finally get to play New York City post-Pablo. The freshly released lineup of the new Queens-based music festival The Meadows features Yeezy, The Weeknd and Chance The Rapper as its major headliners.
The Meadows Music and Arts Festival is being put on by Founders Entertainment, the same folks who run Governors Ball and they admit that the decision to add West to the lineup came after his set at that festival was washed out. In addition to the aforementioned headliners, the inaugural fest will include big names like Grimes, The 1975, Pusha T and Kamasi Washington. The festival will run on Oct. 1 and 2 in Queens’ Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, (for non-New Yorkers, you’d recognize it here). Founders’ partner Tom Russell called the fest “a dream come true” in a press release.
“As a native New Yorker I grew up in awe of the innovative spirit surrounding Flushing Meadows-Corona Park,” he said. “With this event we can shine a spotlight once again on this iconic neighborhood and bring with it the economic benefits, strong community partnerships and local hiring for which Founders Entertainment is known.”
Pre-sale for tickets begins June 22, with general sale starting June 23. Check out the full lineup on the poster below:
