“The Social Network,” edited by Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter, and “Alice in Wonderland,” edited by Chris Lebenzon, won Best Edited Feature Film (Drama) and Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy or Musical) at the 61st Annual ACE Eddie Awards tonight.
For “Network,” it ends a long string of direct losses to “The King’s Speech” at the Producer’s Guild, Director’s Guild and Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. Those industry orgs preferred “Speech,” but the editors went in a different direction. It is a bright light of hope for Sony Pictures which is praying “Network” can make a comeback to win the top prize. Other nominees in the category included “Inception,” “The Fighter” and “Black Swan.”
A surprise winner was “Alice in Wonderland” on the Comedy or Musical side. “Alice” beat out “The Kids Are All Right,” “Easy A,” “Made in Dagenham” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” for the honor.
“Exit Through The Gift Shop” won best documentary editing. No word if Banksy was in the house or not. “Toy Story 3” took the animated feature award.
In the television categories, “Modern Family,” “The Walking Dead,” “Treme,” “Temple Grandin” and “If You Knew Me” all took home honors. “Walking Dead” beat out strong competition from “Glee,” “Breaking Bad” and “Friday Night Lights” in the one-hour series category. “Grandin” won over fellow HBO projects “The Pacific” and “You Don’t Know Jack.”
