Ben Affleck Talks About The Batman Backlash With Jimmy Fallon: ‘I’m A Big Boy…I Handle Sh*t’

Ben Affleck was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night. He talks about the internet’s reaction to his casting as Batman in the video below. We collected some of our favorites among those reactions here and here, and we also followed up with a glorious GIF.

Affleck recalled conversations he had with the studio about the type of hoopla and chaos a key casting like this could create. “‘Listen, we want to talk to you because people go through this process and it can be trying,'” Affleck relayed. “I said, ‘What do you mean?’ ‘We want to show you some of the reactions that past people who have been cast have gotten, like on the Internet and stuff.'” [THR]

Affleck didn’t say who those past people were, but we’re reminded of what people said when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker and the 50,000+ complaints Warner received when they cast Michael Keaton as Batman.

“I’m a big boy,” Affleck joked. “They said just don’t use the Internet for a couple of days. I handle sh-t. I’m very tough. I saw the announcement, I look down on the first comment, the first one just goes, ‘Nooooooooo!'” [THR]

They need to incorporate this into the script. “I handle sh-t. I’m Batman.

Ben Affleck starts talking about the internet’s collective butthurtitude at about 1:45 into the video.
