While the revolution is supposed to be ending with “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2,” the wildly popular movie franchise might not be done after all.
The latest person to hint there might be a future for “The Hunger Games” is one of the stars of the movie itself. During an appearance with co-star Jennifer Lawrence on “Conan” last night (July 9), Josh Hutcherson was unable to keep a tight lip when the host asked if there will be more from the series.
“There is,” Hutcherson said, according to EW. He quickly changed his tune. “I”m sorry. No, I can”t say that. I”m sorry. We”ll see what happens.”
This prompted O”Brien to call Hutcherson”s backtrack the “worst lying he”s ever seen.”
“Conan” has apparently taken the clip down from the show's site. Looks like Jennifer Lawrence owes somebody another scolding.
And this isn”t the first time that word of more “Hunger Games” movies has been hinted at. During a February 2015 call with analysts, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer admitted he”s “actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities.” Considering the series has already grossed more than $2 billion, it wouldn”t be a big shock if the studio did. Of course one big issue is that the book trilogy on which the movies are based concludes with “Mockingjay.”
EW is also saying that “sources close” say the rumor about new films is not true. When HitFix asked if Lionsgate was exploring the possibility of more “Hunger Games” movies, a rep today responded: “No comment.”
