When Pete Carroll was asked about New England Patriots fans in attendance at Gillette Stadium on Sunday night, he refused to give them the Pete Carroll Nuts seal of approval, which is the highest level of nuts you can attain.
Carroll was asked about the atmosphere of the game in enemy territory and tossed shade at Patriots fans while also praising his own fans, who are totally the loudest in the league and it has nothing to do with stadium acoustics or anything like that. From ESPN:
“OK,” Carroll said during the “Brock and Salk” show on 710 ESPN Seattle. “It’s not a great place. They weren’t nuts. It’s because they’re so used to winning. There was a time when they kicked their last field goal to go ahead, and it was like a round of applause for the nice effort. Gosh, our guys would be going berserk. We’re so hungry for it. It’s a gorgeous setting, beautiful arena and the fans, just the whole thing. It’s really classy.”
There is nothing stupider in sports than arguments about which team has louder fans. Like, if you draw an ounce of pride from that, seek help. You may be need that help more than Carroll. But then again, what the hell does Carroll expect the stadium to sound like after Stephen Gostkowski kicks a 30-yard field goal to give the Patriots a 24-22 lead with THIRTEEN MINUTES to play? What is wrong with this guy? Why does he call it an arena? How can an inanimate object be classy?
No one enjoys putting the screws to Patriots fans more than me, but this is just asinine. I bet the stadium would’ve been rocking if Rob Gronkowski wasn’t mugged on fourth down and instead caught the game-tying touchdown. Are you happy, Pete? You’ve got me defending Patriots fans. I hate you.
