Kevin Love is not in the mood to joke around about the potential loss of Kyrie Irving. On Friday, NBA fans learned that Irving might be on the trading block, a shocking revelation for many NBA fans on what was supposed to be a quiet afternoon in July.
As the news spread, people started looking at other Cavaliers players to see how they’d react. Some found an old LeBron James tweet that may have cryptically referenced the trade request. Meanwhile, the Inside Hoops Twitter account sent a tweet sarcastically asking Love how he was doing shortly after the news broke that Irving wanted out of Cleveland.
Hi @KevinLove, how are things

These tweets often go unanswered, but Love was obviously not in the mood to be the butt of a joke, no matter how minor. Instead, he turned the tweet into an opportunity to possibly throw some shade at Irving himself.
Life is amazing. No complaints. Things are a little peculiar. But no complaints. Now go kick some rocks 🙌🏼 https://t.co/Tz62YyGeYt

“Life is amazing,” Love said in the quote reply. “No complaints. Things are a little peculiar. But no complaints. Now go kick some rocks.”
Telling someone to kick rocks is an incredibly Kevin Love thing to do, but the important word here is “peculiar.” That happens to be the same one Irving himself used to describe the current state of the Cavaliers earlier in the week.
At the time, most people thought it just meant the odd length of time the Cavs went without having a general manager, or maybe missing out on some potential trade targets. But now that phrase seems like an excellent one to describe Irving pushing for an exit from a team that’s reached the Finals every season since James returned to Lake Erie.
Tweeting like this is all very on-brand for Love, but it does reflect the tenuous state of the Cavaliers pretty well. Love has been a rumored trade piece a number of times over the last few months, both at the trade deadline and as moves for Paul George and Jimmy Butler have gone down this summer. But the dismantling of the Cavaliers, which now seems more likely than ever, wasn’t supposed to happen like this.
Even a level-headed guy like Love appears to be feeling the pressure of it all these days.
