If you’re somehow one of the people who haven’t yet seen the music video for or listened to the new collaboration between Billy Ray Cyrus and someone named Buck 22, entitled, “Achy Breaky 2,” then you are lucky. Sure, I think you should be strapped to a table and forced to listen to it at least once to feel our pain, but you’re still pretty lucky. A quick look at the YouTube page for this “song” reveals that despite 7.3 million views and counting, more than 43,000 people have disliked it, while just 15,708 have liked it. One step further, the track’s iTunes rating has it sitting around 2.5 stars, with 25 1-star reviews to just 13 5-star reviews. You would think based on those numbers that this song is a colossal dud.
But you’d be wrong. Instead, “Achy Breaky 2” debuted at No. 11 on this week’s Hot Rap Songs list, and Papa Cyrus couldn’t be happier as he waved his copy of Billboard Magazine at photographers from the driver’s seat of his SUV. It was the best debut of the week, as it edged out Wiz Khalifa’s “We Dem Boyz,” which showed up at No. 13. I certainly don’t know much about rap music, but I refuse to believe that there isn’t horrible sorcery at work here.
For the sake of therapeutic relief, here are some of the better reviews from the song’s iTunes page:
Nice try, Trish Cyrus, but you’re not fooling anyone.
