Finally, some nostalgia and reunion news that’s worth a damn. Back in May, the Faith No More Twitter account teased fans with the idea that the band might be getting back into the studio for the first time in forever, as the Tweet suggested that it was “time to get a little creative.” In July, the band provided some more fuel for the fire by performing some new songs at the British Summer Time Festival at Hyde Park in London. But for those of us who are a little slower and require our information up front and in the bluntest manner possible, bassist Bill Gould went ahead and confirmed the great news to Rolling Stone – Faith No More is releasing a brand new album in April, followed by a full U.S. tour.
This will be the first time since 1997’s “Album of the Year” that Mike Patton (AKA the Greatest Singer of All-Time) and Co. have blessed their fans with a full album of original material, but for the band this is simply all about freedom and reclaiming its future. Gould says that they’re “pretty far into” the recording process, and it has definitely been hard for them to keep it a secret, even if they had been hinting a little.
Has it been hard to keep it a secret?
People ask me all the time, “What are you doing now? You’re working all the time, but what the hell are you doing?” And you can’t say anything. “Oh, you know, just working on stuff; working on some projects.” Who wants to start hype with nothing behind it, you know?
What would you say the new stuff sounds like?
I mean… [Laughs.] What I can say is that I think through our experience as musicians over the years, I think what we’re doing reflects where we’ve gone since we made our last record as Faith No More. I think this kicks things up a notch. And I think there’s parts that are very powerful and there’s parts that have a lot of “space.” Everything we do, with our chemistry, the way we play; it’s always going to sound like us. It’s just what we do, that makes us feel good. Hopefully it doesn’t sound like a bunch of 50-year-old men… which we are! [Laughs.] (Via Rolling Stone)
The first single, “Motherfucker,” will be released in November, but if you can’t wait until then for the new sound, here’s a pretty good video of the band’s performance at the British Summer Time Festival, which actually sounds like Patton should have been singing to a bunch of children with some puppets on his hands. Except, if that had been the case, maybe this would have been the wrong song choice.
