Hey, Five Games is back! Hopefully I’ll have more games to fill out these articles in 2015 than I did in 2014.
As always, I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…
This Week’s RPG
Citizens Of Earth (PC, PS4, PS Vita, Wii U & 3DS, Jan. 20th)
Citizens of Earth is a retro-style RPG, but you don’t play as a kid who just had his home village burned down. Oh no, in Citizens of Earth you play as the Vice President of the whole damn planet. Recruit up to 41 different party members as you go on your wacky, somewhat Earthbound-inspired world-saving adventure.
This Week’s Real-Time Strategy Game
Grey Goo (PC, Jan. 23rd)
Grey Goo is a new Starcraft-like real-time strategy game, that lets you play as one of three factions – humans, the alien Betas or the unthinking, all-destroying wall of Grey Goo that’s attacking the planet. Grey Goo isn’t overly groundbreaking, but it looks like a well-polished new fix for Starcraft fans. Here’s the game’s Steam page.
This Week’s Turn-Based Strategy Game
Human Extinction Simulator (PC, Jan. 21st)
Yup, we’ve definitely got a “humanity struggling for survival against an alien scourge” theme going this week. Despite the title, Human Extinction Simulator isn’t a sim, but a tactical strategy game, that tasks you with fending off an alien invasion of Earth over a series of 30+ missions. Human Extinction Simulator may not be the best looking game, but it looks unique and challenging, and certainly worth a try for tactics fans. Here’s the game’s Steam page.
This Week’s Retro Remastering
Resident Evil (PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, Jan. 20th)
Capcom’s fantastic Gamecube remake of Resident Evil rises again for a new generation. This remastered version of Resident Evil features cleaned up textures, 1080p resolution, new character models and revamped controls schemes that can replace Resident Evil’s infamous “tank controls”. Newer Resident Evil fans owe it to themselves to give this classic a try.
Pick of the Week
Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell (PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, Jan. 20th)
The Saints Row saga does the inevitable and goes straight to hell this week. Play as Johnny Gat as he goes on a quest to shoot Satan in the face, while getting into all sorts of sinful (and sometimes musical) adventures along the way. It’s more Saints Row, except in hell – what more do I need to say?
Bit of an apocalyptic thing going on this week. Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
