As we told you earlier this week, Margot Robbie will be playing the colorful and crazy Harley Quinn in the new Suicide Squad movie. Stepping into the shoes of such a beloved character who has never been committed to film must be a tough challenge, and a big part of that comes from being able to master those mannerisms that made the character so beloved in the first place — something Margot Robbie hopes she can pull off, no matter how challenging it ends up being. Though they have not said her voice will be the same as the cartoon, they have hinted as much.
From SuperHeroHype:
None of those things have been set in stone at this point, but according to the comics, she’s from New York and I think Brooklyn, so there may be a slight… I couldn’t imagine it would be as strong as the Wolf of Wall Street accent,” she said. “The lingo will be the difference between that and the other character I played in ‘Wolf’ but I don’t know yet. We haven’t spoken about it.”
I pray there is someone on set who lets her know that Arleen Sorkin and Tara Strong already nailed it. It’d take big, brass balls to step beyond that high-pitched accent fans of the character already love. Should be curious to see how this all plays out when Suicide Squad finally drops next year.
