An elderly woman was arrested last week confessing to killing 11 people over 20 years in a diary in the St. Petersburg, Russia area. Now investigators believe that she ate her victims too.
The Daily Mail reports that Tamara Samsonova, 68, was apprehended after she was caught on CCTV camera dragging the head of her most recent victim. Detectives have since discovered that Samsonova removing heads, arms and legs from her victims’ bodies was her MO, as well as gauging out and eating their lungs, though she was also partial to ingesting other organs.
Investigators found the CCTV footage after discovering Valentina Ulanova, 79, for whom Samsonova was a caretaker. Samsonova’s diary chillingly describes Samsonova giving Ulanova sleeping pills, and then dismembering her while she was still alive. The motive was ostensibly an argument over unwashed cups.
Police are now linking Samsonova to an unsolved murder in 2012, and suspect that Samsonova killed her husband in 2005. His body was never found. Samsonova has been remarkably forthcoming in her latest court appearance. As quoted in the Daily Mail:
She then added: ‘I was getting ready to this court action for dozens of years. It was all done deliberately… There is no way to live. With this last murder I closed the chapter.’
The judge said: ‘I am asked to arrest you. What do you think?’
She replied: ‘You decide, your honour. After all, I am guilty and I deserve a punishment.’
When he announced she would be held in custody, she smiled and clapped her hands.
She was also concerned that everybody in St. Petersburg would find out, calling it “a disgrace,” and blew a kiss to reporters assembled.
