Though it premiered to a decent 1.9 million viewers in its first-season premiere back in June, Lifetime Ally Walker drama “The Protector” subsequently slid in the Nielsen ratings – to the tune of less than 1 million viewers in its most recent episode (in a new Monday time slot).
The fledgling series (which we gave a less-than-favorable review to) has now been cancelled by the female-skewing network, though they have pledged to air the remaining few first-season episodes before pulling the plug later this month.
The drama, which focuses on a female LAPD detective (Walker) balancing work and life as a single mother, was created by Michael Nankin and former “Angel” showrunner Jeffrey Bell. The series co-stars Tisha Campbell-Martin (“My Wife and Kids” ) and Miguel Ferrer (“Crossing Jordan”).
Walker is perhaps known for portraying the lead character on NBC drama “Profiler”, which ran for four seasons on NBC in the late ’90s. More recently, she had a recurring role as Agent June Stahl on the hit FX series “Sons of Anarchy”.
