The “Resident Evil” film franchise is ready to live again (again), with “Retribution” hitting screens this fall. But, after so many films, how do the filmmakers keep things fresh? By bringing back old characters, of course.
HitFix caught up with director Paul Anderson at WonderCon, where he discussed the fifth film in the long-running sci fi/horror/zombie franchise, adapted from the popular video game series.
“Retribution” brings back co-stars from earlier films — including Michelle Rodriguez and Oded Fehr — to join mainstay Milla Jovovich, and also features characters from the games that haven’t appeared on film before. Anderson jokes that some have been calling the film “Resident Evil: All Stars”
The director also touted the film’s new global locations (including Russia), which helped create an epic scale for the film.
Anderson also stressed that “Retribution” may be the beginning of the end for the franchise, adding “A lot of people are gonna die. There’s gonna be a lot of blood onscreen.”
The film will be released in 3D on September 14.
