This week’s Real Time was certainly one that was worth watching for arguing and heated discussion, something the show has been known for over the past few years. That’s because Orlando was a hot topic and Bill Maher took it as an opportunity to debate Islam again, while also tossing in the ongoing gun debate.
There were multiple times throughout the show where guests Lawrence Wilkerson, Josh Barro, Emily Miller — of Emily Gets Her Gun fame — got very spirited in debate. Miller even became fairly offended when guest Ravi Patel flat out told her he didn’t respect her opinion. A very awkward moment.
Maher once again joins many people in asking why the left seems averse to taking on Islam on grander terms, using the opposition to Apartheid in the eighties as an example. It was just one of many avenues explored during the show, including the Orlando shooter’s status as a lone wolf, the role of guns in the attack, and how it compares to other attacks in recent years.

Lawrence Wilkerson really adds a spirited take to the debate, discussing his own gun ownership and the idea of personal defense. It also helps to speak to those responsible gun owners and moderates out there who aren’t truly against banning firearms, but also know that something needs to be done.
Trump also gets some discussion time, notably about his own desires to establish his own media company. There’s plenty of people who might want to work at a Trump media company in the future, but all I keep seeing is Mr. Burns and his basement full of typing monkeys.
