Yes, it may be one of the most annoying songs to ever grace the radio, and yes it was the beginning of the end when it came to a certain Disney starlet’s chubby-cheeked Hannah Montana phase, but don’t be hatin’ on “Party In The USA;” it paid Jessie J’s rent for three years.
That’s right, the catchy pop tune from way back in 2009 that described a young girl with a dream and a cardigan jamming out in a taxi to a Jay-Z song was actually the brain child of the British singer/songwriter, whose latest hit with Nicki Minaj and Arianna Grande is coincidentally also always stuck in our heads.
In an interview with Glamour UK, the singer explained that writing the tune that would one day see Miley Cyrus sporting short shorts and gyrating around a pole at the Teen Choice Awards was one of the best paying gigs she’s ever had:
You’ve got to write songs, that’s where the money is, being an artist. ‘Party In The USA’ paid my rent for, like, three years. Actually it was way longer than that. That’s where I get most of my money. I write songs. I’m a singer. I love endorsements and stuff, but that’s all added on.
Put your hands up if you love royalties!
