If you were a young person without a lot of important things to do in the early-2000s (raises hand) then there’s a good chance you’re very well-acquainted with the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series. For a brief period gamers couldn’t get enough of Tony Hawk’s rail-grinding action, but around the mid-2000s the series stopped landing its tricks with the same consistency. The games started incorporating lame storylines and more cartoonish elements, and then Tony Hawk: Ride and its skateboard controller that didn’t work came along and really put a bullet in the franchise.

For nearly a decade the Tony Hawk series has mostly been sitting on the shelf, but there have been some recent signs that gamers are ready for a new Hawk game. Indie skateboarding game OlliOlli has been a big success, as has Microsoft’s “Tony Hawk with guns” game, Sunset Overdrive. Well, Tony Hawk publisher Activision must have smelled the opportunity to make some cash, because a new Tony Hawk game has been announced.

Activision is ignoring most of those not-so-great mid-2000s Tony Hawk games and simply calling the new game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. As the name suggests, the game will play similarly to classic Tony Hawk games, although there will be some additions, such as new power-ups and the ability to fire projectiles. You’ll also be able to complete the game’s stages via online co-op.

The game will be developed by Robomodo, the same company behind Tony Hawk: Ride, which isn’t great news. Hopefully they do better work when they aren’t having to mess with finicky motion controls.
