‘Sharknado’ Is Back For A Fifth Movie And Fabio Is The Pope Now

Earlier this year, to little fanfare and the surprise of no one, Syfy announced that it would be gifting the world a fifth Sharknado movie; this time promising a global sharknado event. And sure enough, it was confirmed today that Sharknado 5: Global Swarming will be swirling and chomping its way to television screens later this summer on August 6.

The network also revealed a plot summary, just in case “global sharknado event” didn’t already tell you everything you need to know. In the fifth installment, “the mission gets personal for Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his bionic wife, April (Tara Reid) when their young son gets trapped in a traveling ‘nado and transported all over the world.”

Fin and April will also apparently be seeking assistance from “a highly-skilled squad of royals, scholars and Olympians, enlisting famous faces from news, entertainment, and sports,” which brings up to the list of cameos that includes ‘nado veterans Al Roker, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb as themselves — in addition to this tremendous list of newcomers that reads like the roster for VH1’s “Celebreality” programming in the ’00s.

Clay Aiken as Llewelyn, a cutting edge technology genius
Olivia Newton-John and daughter Chloe Lattanzi as Orion and Electra, two brilliant scientists who help defend Australia from a looming Sharknado
Bret Michaels as a visiting artist who gets trapped in the storm
Margaret Cho as a fussy bride whose honeymoon is interrupted by sharks
Charo as The Queen of England
Gilbert Gottfried as storm chaser Ron McDonald
Greg Louganis as Zico, a high-end art thief

Tiffany “New York” Pollard (Flavor of Love) as Vega, a Brazilian black market artifacts dealer
Ross Mullan (a White Walker on Game of Thrones) as Dr. Wobbegon, a scientist who has made breakthroughs in meteorological studies to track Sharknado storms

There’s also this promotional image, which includes the clever tagline that was supposedly the result of a “fan-sourced social initiative.”

Pope Fabio, what a world we live in. Sharknado 5 will be premiering on Sunday, August 6th at 8:00pm ET on Syfy.
