Ka – “Collage” Video

Last year, Ka ripped the only guest appearance on Roc Marciano’s Marcberg. But afterwards, to my dismay, he seemed to slip through some crack in our rap world. The rest of last year, and most of this one, went by with no word from the Brownsville spitter. But under the radar, he continued to walk his path, dreaming up some fresh heat for the masses. “Collage” is the latest example, off his upcoming album, Grief Pedigree. Staring steadily into the camera, Ka maneuvers over a creeping, dark beat, rhyming about the Brooklyn street life while subliminal images flash around him. The bars are dense, methodical gems – reminiscent of Roc Marci, but with a vision and style that stand on their own. The flow never races, the rhyme quality never slips. Ka just keeps coming, spitting with an easy, cold menace.

Plus, he made the beat, shot and edited the video, and, as far as I know, uploaded it to YouTube. I respect that kind of hustle. If you dig this one, the other two videos he’s dropped for Grief Pedigree deserve your attention as well. The album’s set to drop sometime in early to mid January.
