“This is for the hood, this is for the kids, this is for the single mothers, aggins doin’ bids”
After getting flooded with a bi-polar string of singles from Nicki Minaj over the past few months, we finally have a taste of Pink Friday that we can all agree is actually worth repeated spins. There are no Beach Boys guitars, very few vocal tricks and all signs of demonic interference have dissipated. Instead, we just get four game-changing MCs, detailing the diligence it took to become a “Champion.”
After listening, it becomes easier to understand why she has such a hard time fine-tuning her lane. When someone goes from stashing cut-up crack to one of biggest female pop artists on the planet in only a few years, they’ve obviously got quite the mental juxtaposition going on. But, we can’t completely let her slide until we hear the full album, which apparently sprung a leak this afternoon.
What do you think, can this non-radio record help Nicki save face, after all the script-flipping she’s done? Or is the big-booty wig-wearer too far gone to meet expectations come April 3rd?
