De La Soul Portrait

De La Soul’s discography has finally made its way into the 21st century. Without their relentless touring schedule, the Long Island trio may have been really dead to listeners who get most of their music via iTunes and other Internet outlets. Due to the multi-layered, kitchen sink, approach the group took to sampling, and tons of unfinished label business, it has been nearly impossible to re-release their albums and have them available online. Now De La is close to crossing all of the “t”s and dotting the proverbial “i”s, and has decided to reward their fans for waiting patiently.

Beginning at 11 a.m. ET on Valentine’s Day, De La Soul’s entire musical catalog will be available for free download on The website’s name is apt, as this may be an introduction to younger hip-hop fans who haven’t had easy access to the legendary group’s material for their entire lifetime.

And the good news doesn’t stop there. The trio is also planning to release an EP titled Preemium Soul on the Rocks preceding their first proper album in a decade, the magnanimously titled, You’re Welcome. How you love that?
