Mister Cee’s Whitney Houston Tribute Mix

“I really just wanted her to get back to living.”

That’s what I told my doctor. While in the office on Monday, we started off my visit with the usual round of small talk, Whitney Houston being one of our talking points since he knows my relationship with music. Being my physician of nearly a decade, he also knows my past with all the boozing and cruising then recovering. We talked about her career and I told him that we lost Whitney’s voice many years ago. Singing doesn’t mix well with prolonged and excessive drug and alcohol abuse. More recent years aside, Whitney’s career stood strong with a steady stream of hit albums. Songs that will be played across generations. So even if she never recorded another song, she shared her voice and created a body of work to last us a lifetime.

For me, it was never about seeing the “comeback” we often wish for our favorites. As I shared with the doc, “I just wanted her to get stable” and clean. To quiet the demons – both physical and mental – to grab ahold to a small peace of mind as the saying goes. Obviously, I never knew her personally, so I can’t say if she ever found solace while living. Yet at least we know now she will get peace.
