John Fox Defends Peyton Manning’s Honor Against the Mouth of Irsay

Colts owner Jim Irsay has never been one to do anything out of the ordinary to draw unnecessary attention to himself. At all. So it was a surprise to hear about some comments he made to USA Today this week ahead of the Horsey Bowl on Sunday Night, an event that I’m sure Irsay isn’t trying to build hype and attention for at all, especially after his ponies pooped the bed against Marmalard and the Chargers on national television. In an interview in which Irsay actually started off “saying all the right things,” he suddenly took a left turn when it came to Super Bowl wins.

“(Tom) Brady never had consistent numbers, but he has three of these,” Irsay adds. “Pittsburgh had two, the Giants had two, Baltimore had two and we had one. That leaves you frustrated.

“You make the playoffs 11 times, and you’re out in the first round seven out of 11 times. You love to have the Star Wars numbers from Peyton and Marvin (Harrison) and Reggie (Wayne). Mostly, you love this.”

My heart gently weeps for you, Jim.

Anyway, on his Siriius radio show, Broncos coach John Fox didn’t take too kindly to what Irsay had to say about Peyton, what on account of Manning being the driving force behind a potent Denver offense and all. What does the Fox say ?

“I saw the comments. And to be honest with you, I thought it was a bit of a cheap shot,” Fox said. “To me, in my opinion, they were disappointing and inappropriate.

“Peyton would never say anything. He’s too classy to do that. They sounded a little ungrateful and unappreciative to me. For a guy who has set a standard, won a Super Bowl, won four MVP awards… be thankful of that one Super Bowl ring, because a lot of people don’t have one.”

Indeed, Peyton is too classy and/or appearing in too many Papa Johns/car ads to really pay attention what an old, graying billionaire hippie boss who Tweets selfies has to say about him.
