Scotty x DJ Burn One – F.A.I.T.H. Mixtape

Yesterday turned out to be an eventful day in Hip-Hop releases highlighted by Rockie Fresh, Chance The Rapper and J. Cole. Scotty’s F.A.I.T.H. (Foreva Atlanta In The Heart), however, may have topped them all. For the better part of Scotty’s promotion leading to the project’s release, avoiding damn near any and everything was my main objective.

Not because his music wasn’t my cup of tea; Summer Dreams remains one of the more underrated debut tapes of the past few years. Instead, hearing too much of something and someone prior to the actual release date can kill momentum and anticipation in some cases. Turns out, the right decision was made because the DJ Burn One-assisted tape highlighted two very important features.

Point one is Scotty’s maturity as an artist. Summer won me over nearly two calendars ago and since then buddy has become an artist to keep tabs on. Yet, like the homie Maurice noted, he never truly separated himself from the pack of new-age ATLiens. Now, consider that qualm dead. Scotty’s found his lane much like he’s found his voice; a voice catered to providing the soundtrack to upcoming summer evenings playing dominoes and drinking whiskey at cookouts enjoying life with the people we’ve surrounded ourselves with.

Secondly, F.A.I.T.H. provides another example why DJ Burn One continues his reign as one of the game’s premiere tastemakers. At this point, he’s more than simply a “producer” or a “DJ.” He’s a musical interior decorator capable breathing new life into projects with production and vision catered to an artist’s strengths. That’s exactly the case here.

Burn and Scotty’s chemistry stands out like Clayton Bigsby at a Klan meeting. “Food For Thought” is just that. “Ol’ Skool ’84” featuring LE$ should be illegal to be heard anywhere outside of a moving vehicle. “3 Dayz” could very well become a new late-night creep anthem. Meanwhile, the tape’s self-titled track hits home helping bring Scotty’s journey over Burn One’s foundations full circle.

Download the tape and put it on your phone/iPod/blank CD. Do whatever it takes to transport F.A.I.T.H. as far away from computer speakers as possible and fully become apart of the experience. Scotty and Burn One don’t pick up where Summer Dreams left off. They upped the ante. And then some.
