Once I stopped letting my personal prejudices hold me back from liking certain artists and songs, The Dream finally made his way onto my rotation.
In general, it’s taken a long time for me not to dislike a song simply because it’s on the radio, or from an artist with an unfavorable reputation. My preference is in the music and that’s all my opinion should be based on.
That said, for years, I never took the time to listen to Terius, because I’ve always dug T-Pain and thought Dream clearly stole Pain’s all-the-way Auto-Tuned style – because, well, he kind of did. But, hey, if you can legitimately flip that gimmick into a hit like “Rockin’ That Sh*t,” why not?
Thankfully, I finally came around. After catching that simplistic, futuristic love song from his Love Vs. Money album on Pandora a few months ago, I haven’t looked back. It was a revelation, like ‘Oh yeah. The Dream has a back catalogue I’ve never heard. This is going to be good.’
Although I’ve yet to dive in completely, I did unsuccessfully try to find the full 2009 LP at Best Buy and plan on openly jamming the songs on repeat like they’re new once I finally find it.
