Jim Irsay Almost Picked ‘Game Of Thrones’ “Mountain” As His Champion One Year Ago

Perhaps if Jim Irsay followed through back in ’13, Cersei wouldn’t have been able to name Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane as a champion, as he would have been an Indianapolis Colt. Would make Tyrion and Oberyn’s job easier, at least.

His name is Hafthor Bjornsson, which somehow, is a more badass name than “The Mountain”, and he is a gigantic strongman from Iceland. It’s not surprising that he got the attention of some GMs. At the end of the day, however, Bjornsson’s injuries ended up making it impossible for the man to play contact sports, which is a shame. Think about it. We could have had The Mountain blocking for Hodor, and then in book 6, George R.R. Martin would ink a deal with the NFL changing all the team names to Westerosi houses and allowing the use of broadswords on the field of play. Then Tom Brady would lose his throwing hand and Roger Goodell would die horribly after drinking poisoned wine.

I can dream.
