No Idea’s Original: Jose Canseco Called Out Alex Rodriguez For Using PEDs Years Ago

Jose Canseco may be a snitch by every letter of the law. But he’s a first-ballot Hall of Fame snitch if anything. He called Alex Rodriguez’s downfall five years ago.

Beginning Thursday, A-Rod’s suspension of 211 games goes into effect meaning the earliest he’ll be allowed back on a professional baseball field – after his appeal is expectedly denied in a few weeks – is the spring of 2015. In other terms, a “death penalty” without actually being coined a “death penalty.” You know, unless A-Rod decides he still wants to play in March 2015 or, better yet, a team is willing to sign him.

Way back in early months of 2008, Jose Canseco visited ABC’s Nightline to discuss his then-new book Vindicated: Big Names, Big Liars & The Fight To Save Baseball. In it, the former Bash Brother openly threw Alex Rodriguez’s name into the pit of eternal hardball damnation with the claim that A-Rod was a notorious juicer.

When asked how he was so sure by Martin Bashir, and at times all but calling him a liar, Canseco eerily and confidently responded, “The timing’s not right. Let’s see how Alex reacts to this. Let’s see if they all call me a liar again. How’s that for you?”

Well, on August 5, 2013, at exactly 3:00 p.m. EST, the timing became “right.” Jose Canseco, everybody, soothsayer.
