Ja Rule Feat. Leah Siegal – “Parachute”

No matter your stance on the guy, you’ve got to give it up for Ja Rule. Despite currently serving out a 28-month bid and having a negative connotation hanging over his head for maybe the rest of his life, this former rap superstar has stuck to his guns throughout the sliding slope and still managed to release some quality music along the way. Ja’s latest effort, “Parachute,” maintains his relevance.

Backed by an epic instrumental from longtime producer 7 Aurelius and a Suzanne Vega-sounding hook from Leah Siegal, The Rule navigates around chest-thumping drums and Ratatat-esque guitar wails to speak on how he’ll overcome his current free-fall at all costs, even if it means giving “the Devil a hug and the Lord a kiss.” At this point in both his life and career, I can’t say that I blame him.

After almost a year of setbacks, Pain Is Love 2 is slated to drop February 28.
